June 11.
I awake in Cairns to more rain!! Below is a picture of the same hill with the cloud above it in yesterdays post, today, it can't be seen!
So I head North and come upon a nice bit of road that follows the coast where there are lots of nice little beaches.
And a small island or 2.........
The view back down the coast from Port Douglas..... A lot of roadworks going on up here too. Have you ever noticed that on a windy road when the stop go dude turns to go the car at the front of the cue is the slowest driver in the universe!!!
Hills around Mossman.... Where once again most touristy things are closed for maintenance or due to flooding.
This area is called the cassowary coast, the only one I saw was this statue at Mossman gorge....
Oh look...... a British beach on the Queensland coast!!
I found Daintree, and this is the Daintree river.....
The very dense rain forest which makes up Daintree national park, and most of the coastal hinterland about this region.
I was going to cross the Daintree river and head for Cape Tribulation for a look but the rain and low cloud made it not worthwhile. So I continued North inland hoping to either head for Weipa or Cooktown.
The road to Weipa is closed to cars so I headed for Cooktown. Below is a nice river (it flows into the Mitchell river but I can't recall it's name) I came across which is normally dry....
Hmmmmmm.......... Hungry cows??? Iron deficient cows???
Cape York!
The green in the foreground is a banana plantation near Lakeland
Black mountain not far from Cooktown. It's a mass of granite boulders....
This will be as far North as I get!!
Still bleak enough that I can't see much this afternoon at Cooktown, so I'll have a look about in the morning!
