June 12.
I awake in Cooktown and it's really bucketing rain. I speak with Mick the motel owner and he tells me they've had nearly 3 inches over night. The history museum is closed due to rain. Nothing to do here so I head south! Back the way I came.
Below is a shot of black mountain from the road, the one with all the granite boulders. You can't see it in the picture but it's pouring, which is why I took this from inside the car!
This is a river/creek crossing not far from Cooktown, when I came in yesterday there wasn't any water flowing here....
There was a plantation of these trees near Lakeland...... anyone know what they are?
Banana plantation......
This is a tungsten mine at Mt Carbine. Tungsten is a metal used for making hard tools like cutting bits for metal lathes among others. It's also been used in every house with electricity all over the world for decades, any idea where? : )
Near Mareeba, still raining.
I came upon this old boiler and steam engine on the side of the road..... Cool brickwork!
These are statues relating to the history of cane farming at Tully.... Couldn't see them on the way up.... no fog but still pouring!
Looking west in the direction I'd like to go.............rain!
South..... the direction I'm heading.....no rain!
I end up back at Townsville, once again having my plans frustrated by rain and closed roads.... I think I'll just go home and sit in a corner sulking for the rest of my holiday!!
Full moon tonight, it's already above the horizon prior to sunset....
Zoomed in shot of the moon.... good camera!
Zoomed out shot of the moon.....
Zoomed in again..... Awesome!!
